"Even in the darkest times, cultivating beauty and capturing moments of nature can serve as a powerful antidote to despair."

ABOUT ME
My name is Kevin Clouse. In our world of relentless hurry, anxiety, and turmoil, gardening is an act of hope, creativity, beauty, and rest. I want to share that with you.

My dad is an artist and very gifted gardener. When I was growing up, I hated being put to work in the yard! Despite my bad attitude, my dad gave me an intuitive appreciation of beauty and design and a solid base of gardening knowledge that I didn't know I had until I started gardening myself.
When my wife and I lived in Hong Kong, we had a 4x30’ second floor balcony that I stuffed full of containers of bamboo, anthurium, hibiscus, croton, crown of thorns and other bold and bright subtropical plants. It was my first real attempt at a garden of my own, and I loved it. When we moved to Sioux Falls and bought our lovely house, I poured myself into creating a cottage garden (complete with white picket fence) emphasizing South Dakota native plants. I’m self-taught through lots of practice, trial and error, and research. I've taken many courses and workshops in horticulture, native flora, and landscape design through the American Horticultural Society, Wild Ones, The Xerces Society, Prairie Up, New Directions in the American Landscape, Floret, Gardens Illustrated, and Heritage Museums & Gardens.

I'm also an Anglican spiritual director with a doctorate in Ignatian leadership. For me, gardening is a deeply prayerful, joyful participation in the Creator's project of re-creation and the renewal of all things.
